One of the finest men I've known in my life died today -- my wife's father, James A. Fallows, MD. He was kind, good spirited, happy, optimistic, bighearted, and intellectually curious. So strong were those qualities in him that some of each spread to anyone who was with him.
His older son recently posted this note about him, which vividly expresses the kind of man he was.
This family has lost its great and beloved patriarch. His goodness lives on in his daughters and sons, and he lives on in the admiration and appreciation of all of us lucky enough to have known him.
He is, to borrow his son's phrasing, on "my own personal Mt. Rushmore."
I'm sorry to hear about this John. My condolences to you and your wife.
