As Iron Knee notes, "Considering that the Boston Tea Party was actually against the East India Tea Company (the then equivalent of a multinational corporation) it is difficult to believe that the founders of this country really intended for corporations to have the same rights as people and for money to be considered protected speech."
I left this out of my blog for fear of ranting at length, but on Evacuation Day I walked past Old South Meeting House, the sight of the inception of the Boston Tea Party. The Teabaggers were just finishing up a rally on Boston Common. Old South had no visitors. I happen to be friends with the director of Old South and she said that nobody but WBUR (definitely NOT part of the Tea Party movement) was interested in the connection between the original Boston Tea Party and the current Tea Party. From my perspective, these oafs are not even patriotic enough to bother with the most obvious symbolic connection they could have made. I think the complete absence of interest in the history and intent of their purported forerunners betrays the true nature of the "Tea Party Movement." Their main interests are keeping what they perceive as their entitlements, racist rants, anti-intellectualism, and a misguided sense of pseudo-libertarianism that they think passes for patriotism. These traitors should be exposed for what they are- people bent upon the destruction of the American Way and undermining the authority of the President of the United States. Maybe they are actually undercover Russians.
