According to today's NYT, federal prosecutors are allowing Bernard Madoff to wander freely "throughout Connecticut, southern New York and Long Island," as long as he is in his Upper Eastside apartment from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.
This is outrageous. Why should this thief be allowed any freedom? He has admitted to bilking thousands of people and organizations out of some $50 billion. (Many of those people probably fleeced others to get the money they placed with Madoff, but that's immaterial for now.) Seize this swindler's assets now, put him in jail, and throw away the key.
